Courier Driving Jobs – Why You’re Not Making Money!

Courier drivers jobs are plentiful if you know where to find them but you also need to be aware of the fact that some courier drivers jobs are better than others.

Yes I know you are probably thinking well work is work and at least I will be earning some money… This is a misconception and can be a real failing in some businesses.

You must understand that not all jobs are equal and just because you are rushing around like a maniac you are probably no more than a busy fool…

Here are a few simple tips on how to avoid courier drivers jobs that turn into some kind of warped nightmare.

1. Check out the company, or person hiring you. Have they been around long? Do they pay well? Do they seem organized and in control of their business. One of the worst things that can happen is you carry out work for a company, investing your time and money, only to find they are going out of business, or completely disorganized and “bad payers”. You could end up out of pocket because yes you could try and get your invoice paid but the chances are you won’t succeed and will end up forking out money to chase bad debts you will never get back.

Before you start running your own courier business you need to have written a business plan which needs to include your profit and loss and this needs to be incorporated into your cash flow. You will fail if you do not put a price on your time and running costs.

3. Plan your time effectively. This means planning your routes in order to maximize your profits. Ie; you don’t want to be dashing from one place to the next in no particular order. You will certainly end up out of pocket. Sit down at the beginning of each week and plan your workload – even if you can’t plan it all because new jobs will be coming in at least have a skeleton plan.

4. When you first start your courier driving business you need to set your “terms of credit”. This means when you are going to get paid. Set it and stick to it. Do not be pressurized or bullied into changing your terms. If you do this will affect your daily cash flow and you will end up coming unstuck. Courier drivers jobs are easy to find but you need to bear these points in mind.
