Causes of Nail Fungus
Fungal infections are widespread to both toenails and fingernails. Toenail fungus is most commonly referred to as onychomycosis. This is caused by a collection of fungus known as dermatophytes. These fungus are dangerous for the reason that they thrive and breed on the keratin that builds up the exterior side of the toe nail. Toenail fungus can lead to discoloration and disfiguration of the nails. It is a very infectious disease and some times it is hereditary.
Fungus that triggers this kind of skin infection thrives and breeds in places that are frequently wet. Thus, damp places are the most common location to be infected with nail fungus infection. A moderate discomfort can be felt during the first stage of the infection.

Nail fungus symptoms and home remedies
An infection of nail fungus takes place when fungi infect your nails. It can start off as a spot with whitish or yellowish color underneath the tip of your fingernail or toenail. As it develops, the nail will thicken and will become brittle. The fungus will also possibly spread from all over the body. The nails will also develop a foul smelling odor. The infected nail will eventually fall or shed off.
Nail fungus infection can be treated in many different ways such as home remedies, medical treatments and surgeries. There are many ways to treat nail fungus infection at home that are easy to find, cheap yet proven effective. You can choose any of the following:
1. Tea Tree oil – Tea tree oil is known to be a very effective antiseptic. Wash the area first and dry it very well before dabbing the tea tree oil. You can dab a few drops on the affected area to clean and disinfect the area. Leave for ten (10) to fifteen (15) minutes. Do this repeatedly for weeks.
2. Warm water and Apple Cider Vinegar – Soak your nail for a total of 15 – 20 minutes in basin with lukewarm water and natural apple cider vinegar mixed in equivalent amount. After this, dry your toenails properly. You can use a blower to dry effectively. Apple cider vinegar is a very mild type of acid which is very good for nail fungus prevention.
3. Oregano and Olive oil – mix together two (2) drops of Oregano oil with a teaspoon of olive oil. Put this combination on the affected area daily. Repeat the procedure for two weeks only. Oregano essential oil is known to have antiseptic, anti parasitical, antiviral, antibacterial, analgesic, and anti fungal properties. While olive oil will keep the nails moisturized and healthy.
4. AHA Creams – Get AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) cream and lather them on the affected area before going to sleep. AHA is known to promote exfoliation of dead skin cells thus reduces the risk of fungus from growing in your rough skin.
